The Scottsboro trial inspired Tom Robinson's trial. Nine teenagers were convicted of rape, even when the evidence clearly showed the rape never happened. In both trials, the accused were judged based on race alone. A key difference is the Scottsboro boys had terrible lawyers, while Atticus was a good lawyer for Tom.
