The Articles of Confederation was the first constitution of the United States. It gave little power to the national government.

The Great Compromise solved the problem between the large and small states at the Consitutional Convention by giving equal representation in the Senate (2 Senators per state) and representation based on population in the House of Representatives. Three-Fifths Compromise.
