Look at the MIFU and utilize the RME list for specific equipment to the unit
When is it time to change a sharps container?
when the container is 3/4 full; supply room will have new containers and the medication room will have the key for the wall unit
What is needed for clean linen cart storage?
They need to be covered with a plastic or cloth covering and in a clean area
What do you do if you get a substance in your eye?
Go to the dirty utility room and rinse your eye out for 5 minutes; notify charge nurse and seek medical attention; fill out a staff safety report (on sharepoint)
How are we assessing and reassesing pain?
With the pain scale mnemonic, the EMR notification after 60 minutes for PO medication, after 15-30 minutes for IV medication
What is the contact time for CaviWipes? Bleach Wipes?
Cavi- 2 to 3 minutes
Bleach 3 minutes (until dry)

How do you know when an oxygen tank is empty or full in the supply room?
The tag attached should be ripped to Full, In Use, or Empty; the tanks are designated in the carriers for full/in use and empty; when the regulator is placed on the tank - the dial will indicate level
What do you do if you see a fire in a patient room?
Initiate RACE and PASS; shelter in place for 2 hours - if unable evacuate patients and staff to 10C - then to 13D - then to P6 (lateral evacuation before external evacuation)

the staff member needs to complete the online training and competency training completed and placed in the CAF folder
What is the difference between positive and negative pressure rooms? How do you test if they are creating the correct pressure?
Positive Pressure forces air OUT of the room to protect the patient
Negative pressure maintains the environment by keep air IN to protect the outside
Check using a Vanometer - if the needle goes up it means the negative pressure is pulling air IN
Where is the medical gas shut off valves and how do you shut them off?
The medical gas valves on both units are by the nurses station. To shut off, punch the lock to open and turn off valves.
Explain the PRESS Bronchiolitis Project?
a standardized way of assessing our pediatric patients diagnosed with bronchiolitis. PRESS completed in ED; MSP RN will conduct another PRESS assessment; use the algorithm to determine interventions (interventions performed - reassess in 2 hours, no interventions - reassess with VS)

Your patient has a 5/10 pain level in their post surgical knee, they have been given an ice pack and pillow to elevate their leg. They say "it feels okay, just uncomfy." The orders are 975 mg PO of Tylenol (first line); 5mg Oxycodone PO (pain level 3-6); 10mg Oxycodone PO (Pain level 6-8); hydromorphone 0.5mg IV (pain level 9-10).
What would you give first and explain the process of giving the patient the medication?
Based on their pain and comfort level, give the tylenol - if that doesn't work after 1 hour reassess and give the Oxy
Hand Hygiene, Med Room (verify Name and DOB), go to room, Hand Hygiene, scan wrist band, Patient Identifiers, ask for allergies, scan medication, hand medication to patient (ensure that they have taken the medication), if nothing else is needed ensure patient has call light and personal items are within reach, hand hygiene as you leave the room
What are the functions of the daily checklists on the unit?
To ensure that the unit is ready to provide safe patient care; needed to ensure daily cleaning, daily inspection of medical equipment to ensure compliance; every one's responsibility
Your patient is becoming increasingly agitated and making advances and threats toward you and the other staff - what do you do?
Try to de-escalate the situation - remove yourself from harms way. Initiate a Code Green to have assistance to the floor. If the patient escalates the situation - initiate PMDB.
