What is a preambulatory clause?
A word or phrase used to explain the problem(s) being addressed in committee
What is a motion?
A specific statement or action made by delegates to direct the committee in a certain direction
Example: Point of Inquiry
A motion used by delegates to ask their chairs a question regarding committee procedure
What is the format of a position paper?
Background, policy, plans
What is an operative clause?
A word or phrase used to define actions being taken to address the problem(s) in committee
What must delegates say before asking other delegates a question during committee?
"Delegate, do you accept my question?"
What are signatories?
Signatories are delegations who support the creation of your working paper and/or action plan
Working papers are required to have signatories, but being a signatory will not affect you or the competition
How are preambulatory and operative clauses written in the working paper?
Preambulatory and operative clauses should be written in italics
What three points should be included when proposing a moderated caucus (moderated debate)?
debate time, debate topic, delegate speaking time
Example: "Motion for a 15 minute debate on topic 2 subtopic (a), speaking time 1 minute"
How do you receive a sponsorship?
Although a sponsorship is never a guarantee, you can increase your chances of getting one by contributing ideas during bloc discussions, adding plans to the working paper, and generally showing a leadership role within the creation of the working paper or action plan
Where should preambulatory and operative clauses go on the working paper?
Preambulatory clauses should go in the preamble, which is at the beginning of the working paper
Operative clauses should go after each agenda topic, but before the plans put in place for the subtopics
What can delegates propose for the speaking time of a moderated caucus, aside from establishing an exact time?
"Speaking time discretion of the Dias"
This means that the chairs will determine how much time each delegation has to speak during a debate
What is the difference between a working paper and an action plan?
The working paper proposes solutions to the problems discussed in the agenda
The action plan proposes solutions to the problems presented by the crisis
