400

Summarize the five steps of muscle contraction?

Nerve impulse causes Ach release at neuromuscular junction which binds receptors on motor end plate initiating muscle impulse

Impulse spreads quickly along sarcolemma and into fiber along T-tubules, causing calcium to be released

Calcium binds to troponin, tropomoyosin moves, myosin heads attach to actin and form crossbridges

Myosin attach, pivot, detach cycle and sarcomere shortens, continues as long as calcium ions remain bound

Calcium is moved back into sarcoplasmic reticulum by ion pumps, filaments slide back into place
