These define a character before they even sing or speak. Most of the time will tell you about the time period, their mental state, and their social status

This is less serious with lots of comedy and usually shorter. There is singing and talking

This famous performer was know for his raspy voice and trumpet playing. He also travelled the world as an music ambassador during the Cold War HINT: his trumpet was NOT bent

This changed from just entertainment to part of the storytelling. Many different types were introduced in this time period of musicals.
