Where do I look to find out what homework I have???
Google Classroom, then go to the top and click "CLASSWORK." You will see a tab that says "Winter Quarter Assignments." That's our homework. (We are in 2nd Quarter now).

We leave our cameras ON so Ms. Simonian knows you're still here.
How long does my song have to be?
At least one minute. This is pretty short for a song, so you may want to make yours longer.
If you are new this quarter, your song only has to be 30 seconds, but you may want to make it longer. Most pop songs are about 2 minutes and 30 seconds or more.
What do we do on Fridays?
We do an online short check-in assignment. We also have open office hours for anyone who needs help or has to make up a quiz.
Why are we wearing masks?
To protect ourselves and other people. You can't always tell when someone is sick.
How much is In-Class/Zoom attendance and participation worth?
25% of our grade (as much as homework)
Why is it important for us to MUTE ourselves on Zoom unless we are asking a question or have permission to play our song?
So we don't get audio feedback or cause distractions/interruptions. Everyone needs a turn to be heard.
Does my song need to have words?
No, but you can write words (lyrics) and sing them if you want. Make sure it's clean (no cuss words) and school appropriate. Our families are going to see them. But you already knew that.
What happens if Ms. S is absent/sick?
There will be an assignment to do in Google Classroom under CLASSWORK/2nd Quarter Assignments called "Assignment to Do If Ms. Simonian is Absent." Yes, it counts.

Why is it not okay to put another person down in class or on Zoom?
We show respect to each other. If you don't want to be made fun of or put down, then make sure to respect other people too. We are a team and we all need to feel safe here to share our music.
I recorded something in another program or using another instrument. Can I use that for my song project?
Yes, as long as it's at least one minute and sounds like it's finished. You can also import audio into BandLab and mix more than one piece of music together that you wrote.

What is another good way to protect ourselves from the coronavirus? (More than one right answer)
Make sure to wash hands, use hand sanitizer, wear masks, let someone know right away if you feel sick or have a fever.
What are the ways we can pass the final project?
Pick one:
1. Write a song in BandLab, using your Songmaker beat from last quarter. (At least 1 minute!)
2. Write a 16-bar song in Songmaker, using your 8 bar beat from last quarter. (If you're new, you only need 8).
3. Record a video of yourself playing an instrument or singing a song you wrote yourself (At least 1 minute)
What is a Zoom team lead? How do I get to be one?
A team lead is a student volunteer (there will be 4 of them) who can answer some questions, make sure the group stays on topic, and let Ms. Simonian know if someone in the small group has a question.
If you want to be a Zoom team lead, email me why you want to be a team lead and I'll pick them by next week. Team lead jobs only last for the quarter.
When should I start working on my final project? (It's due December 7).
Right now! If you were here last quarter, you already have part of a song. The sooner we finish them (rough draft in November), the sooner we can work on them as a group and get positive suggestions.
I have late homework or a late quiz from last quarter. What do I do?
Email Ms. S to set up a Zoom time to take the quiz now and make up the points. For late homework assignments, do it before Friday Oct 23 for half credit. After that, the homework will get a zero. Yuk! If you need help, let Ms. S know right away.
