The color or tone of a particular instrument or voice.

A single dominant line with some accompaniment. One of the more common types of film music.
What is homophonic texture?
Music that is sang by a group of vocalists.
What is choral or chorus?
A small melodic idea that can be used in a larger melody or on its own.
What is motive?
The central note in a passage of music.
What is tonic?
The relationship between the main melodic idea to the rest of the musical content.
What is texture?
When three (minimum) or more pitches are played at the same time.
What is a chord?
Music that is played with the use of musical instruments.
What is instrumental music?
The "happier" sounding chords or melodic idea is.
What is major?
The "sadder" sounding chords or melodic idea is.
What is minor?
A single melody either played or sung by a group of performers (all playing the same music) or by a soloist represents this type of texture.
What is monophonic?
The element where two or more pitches clash against one another making it unpleasing to the ear. Usually used for dramatic moments.
What is dissonance?
Describe what, at least, one instrument family is most commonly going to play. (Ex. What type of music would the strings be playing; what emotion would they project?)
String instruments can play lyrical love themes and agitated combat music
Brass instruments can generate great power and force. They are often heard in marches and fanfares.
Woodwinds are generally heard either with the entire orchestra or isolated as soloists.
Percussion instruments are often added to generate excitement or add color to the orchestral sound.
