Dissonant
a combination of sounds thought to be in harmonious (often ones intentionally to be so)
Accent
this is the emphasis placed on a musical sound
Meter
this is the aural aspect of music in which a certain number of beats are grouped together
Measure
represents the division of beats into defined groups separated by a bar
Improvisation
spontaneous musical invention where the individual is making up and creating their music as they perform (not strictly following any sheet music)
Ostinato
a repeated musical figure
Syncopation
this is where the accents on the beats occur on the weak beats or in-between the beats
Time Signature
an indication of rhythm following a clef, generally expressed as a fraction with the denominator (bottom) defining the beat as the division of a whole note and the numerator (top) giving the number of beats in each bar
