I was invented by the March King, John Philip Sousa. I am similar to a tuba. Players will not drop me as easily because I go over their heads and rest on their shoulders.

I am made of hardwood bars at different lengths set horizontally on a metal frame. My bars are hit with hard mallets and I have a bright, sharp sound. I was originally modeled after an African instrument and my name is Greek, meaning "wood sound".

I can be held in a person's hand, and when my wood pieces strike each other, I make a clicking sound that is often heard in Spanish dances. My interesting rhythm patterns can be very fast and add color and excitement to the music!

I have leather hand straps and am shaped so that when I am crashed together, only my edges touch. I come in many different sizes. Sometimes I am so small that I can be played with just the fingers. I can also be struck with drumsticks or mallets while hanging on a string or stand.

I look like a small xylophone, but am made of steel bars instead of wood. I am played with wooden or plastic mallets, and have a high sound that is bright and penetrating. My name comes from the German language and means "to play the bells

Originally, I was made from eucalyptus tree trunks and limbs hollowed out by termites while I was still living. I originated in Australia and am one of the world's oldest musical instruments.
