Shower

Yes, if your doctor says it is okay, please shower! Make sure you PAT the incision dry. No baths though for at least two weeks or as per doctor's orders.

Precautions for other medications

Your doctor will tell you if and when your child can restart his or her medicines. The doctor will also give you instructions about your child taking any new medicines. Certain medications can interfere with each other and produce unintended results!

Bowel movements, what's normal?

A change in bowel habits right after surgery is common! However, if your child has not had a bowel movement after a couple of days, that is concerning and you need to call the doctor.

Cleaning

Follow the doctor's orders for cleaning the area around your child's incision!

Normal Rest

Your child will be tired as their body recovers, let them rest as much as they need to! Make sure they get enough sleep at night. Allow them to slowly become more active.

Upset Stomach

  • Do not give pain medicines on an empty stomach. Give your child pain medicines after meals or with a snack (unless the doctor has told you not to).
  • Ask the doctor for a different pain medicine if you think the one you have makes your child sick.
  • Talk to your child's doctor about trying a motion sickness medicine.

Upset stomach

If your child's stomach is upset, try bland and low-fat foods. Some good suggestions are plain rice, toast, yogurt, and broiled chicken!

Normal symptoms shortly after surgery

Your child may feel weak and tired for several days

Your child's belly may be swollen and painful 

Your child may also feel sick to his or her stomach and have diarrhea, constipation, gas, or a headache 

These symptoms usually go away in a few days!
