The Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) requires that taxes are deducted from your gross earnings.

6.2% of your taxable gross income goes towards Old Age and Survivor’s Insurance (OASI) and Disability Insurance (DI), which shows up as “FICA” on your paystub and 1.45% goes towards Medicare which shows up as “FicaMed” on your paystub.
