Used by the body to form clots and to stop bleeding. Infants are born with very little of this in their bodies. Without this injection the infant is at risk for life threatening cases of bleeding, including intestinal and brain bleeds and can occur up to 6 months of age.

Is an opioid agonist-antagonist analgesic and is used to treat pain from uterine contractions during labor. Dosage is usually 1-2 mg. Usually given every 4 hours, IV. Side effects include drowsiness, confusion, agitation, headache and can cause respiratory depression in the infant if given too close to delivery.

Used to relieve symptoms of extra gas in the digestive tract that can cause abdominal pain. Can be given post operatively to the mother or to infants who are formula feeding.
