Hades kidnaps Persephone. Demeter, Goddess of harvest and her mother, mourns so heavily that the world becomes barren and cold. Hades agrees to release Persephone but not before tricking her into eating pomegranate seeds, binding her to the Underworld. A deal is struck and now Persephone spends half of the time with Hades (winter) and the other half with Demeter (spring).
