-Missouri is added as a slave state, but Maine is added as a free state to keep a balance. New rule states slavery will be illegal north of the 36' 30'.

South Carolina claimed it was unconstitutional and tried to nullify it, and threatened to secede if the Tariff was forced on them.

President Jackson prepared to go to war with the state of South Carolina and hang its leaders if they didn't give in. He had congress pass the 'Force Bill'.
