The Grange movement was started by farmers in the late 1800's to try and communicate farming strategies and also pressure lawmakers to pass laws to deal with their problems. (railroad monopolies, deflation)

It greatly increased it since it gave up to 160 acres for very little money as long as you farmed the land for 5 years.

Prices went down and farmers fell into debt as they purchased steel plows, land on credit and didn't have the money to pay up.

After the massacre of around 300 Native American men, women and children resistance to the U.S. army stopped and the last Natives were forced on reservations.
