This cultural region is located between the Cascade and the Rocky Mountains. It had hot summers and freezing winters. This area had thick grasses and plants like the camas, whose roots were important food. The Yakima lived here.

This cultural region extended from the Atlantic Coast through the Ohio Valley to the Mississippi River. Streams and rivers crisscrossed the region and wound through forests of oak, maple, and birch trees. The Algonquian tribes live here.
