What causes a landslide to happen?
Landslides are caused by earthquakes, heavy rainfall, or human construction.

Floods are caused by heavy rainfall, snow melting, ocean waves hitting the land, or dams breaking.
What causes a volcano?
When the Earth's tectonic plates go over each other, pressure causes magma to come up and explode out of the Earth.
What causes an earthquake?
When the tectonic plates rub against each other, it causes the Earth to shake.
What can happen to people or buildings in a landslide? Why are they dangerous?
In a landslide, people can be buried underneath dirt or rocks. The buildings can break or collapse.
Where in the world do tsunamis occur the most frequently?
They happen at the boundary lines of the tectonic plates. The area with the most tsunamis is the Ring of Fire.

Flooding happens along the Yangtzhe River and in areas with a lot of rainfall, such as Guizhou, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Heilongjiang.

Scientists use seismographs, or machines, that measure the vibration of the Earth. They use the Richter Scale to tell how strong these vibrations are.
