Madara showed the ability with his right eye to record a short event while his left eye could rewind that recorded event from his right eye to change the outcome of the original event. This could explain why madara was able to survive prolonged daily battles with his rival without the possession of any healing/regeneration technique, unlike the senju who could heal most wound without the use of hand seals. So when madara was threatened by an attack that would put his life in danger, he could rewind that event to change the outcome of it and survive without being hit. In my mind this ability would be very chakra taxing and would lead the user to blindness quickly.
