This person receives any kind of payment, directly or indirectly, for athletics participation. (Except as permitted by the governing legislation of the Association)
What is a professional athlete?
The term used to describe any face-to-face encounter between a prospective student athlete or the prospective student-athlete's family members and an institutional staff member or athletics representative during which any dialogue occurs in excess of an exchange of a greeting.
What is a contact?
This is a student who, for purposes of determining academic eligibility for financial aid, practice and competition, has met the following requirements:
-graduated from high school
-successful completion of required core curriculum
-met a specified minimum grade point average in the core curriculum
-met a specified minimum SAT or ACT score
What is a qualifier?
These are funds provided to student-athletes from various sources to pay or assist in paying their cost of education at the institution.
What is financial aid?
This is an item given in recognition of athletics participation or performance.
What is an award?
This person represents or attempts to represent an individual for the purpose of marketing his or her athletic ability for financial gain.
What is an agent?
This is a period of time when it is permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the institutions campus.
What is a quiet period?
A person who is a high school graduate and who presented the same academic qualifications applicable to qualifiers except the following: The required minimum core-curriculum grade point average and minimum combined testing score on the SAT critical reading and math sections or a minimum sum score in the ACT as specified in Bylaw 14.3.1.2.1 AND Bylaw 14.3.1.1-(c) shall not apply
What is an academic redshirt?
This amount is calculated by an institutional financial aid office, using federal regulations, that includes the total cost of tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation, and other expenses related to attendance at the institution.
What is the cost of attendance?
This is any special arrangement by an institutional employee or representative of the institution's athletics interests to provide a student-athlete or the student-athlete family member or friend something that is not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation.
What is an extra benefit?
The status of an individual when they ask to be placed on a draft list or a supplemental draft list of a professional sport league.
What is a professional athlete?
This is an off-campus activity designed to assess the academic or athletic ability of a prospective student athlete, including any visits to the prospect's school or observation of the prospect in any practice or competition at any site.
What is an Evaluation?
If a student-athlete drops a course that places them under a full-time enrollment, they are no longer eligible for these things.
What is practice and competition?
This is defined as an individual who is receiving institutional financial aid that is countable against the aid limitations in a sport
What is a counter?
This is the number of tickets an institution may provide per home or away intercollegiate athletics event to a student-athlete in the sport in which the individual participates (either practices or competes). regardless of whether the student-athlete competes in the contest.
What is four?
When an individual asks a professional sports organization about eligibility for a professional league player draft or request information about the individuals market value. This does not affect amateur status.
What is an inquiry?
On the signing day for the National Letter of Intent, this form of communication is unlimited and can be had starting the Sunday before until 48 hours after 7AM on NSD.
What are telephone calls?
This kind of course may be used only once to satisfy core-curriculum requirements. The best grade in that course may be used to calculate the grade-point-average in the core curriculum.
What is a repeat course?
The rule that states an institution shall not award financial aid to a student-athlete that exceeds the cost of attendance that normally is incurred by students enrolled in a comparable program at that institution.
What is the maximum institutional financial aid for an individual?
This is the amount of money that a student-athlete may exchange for their complimentary tickets.
This is the number of times an enrolled student athlete may enter the National Football League draft during their college career without jeopardizing their eligibility (given they don't get drafted and the SA declares intention to resume intercollegiate athletic play within 72 hours following the draft)
What is one?
This is the number of in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts allowed per prospective student-athlete at any site and shall include contacts made with the prospective student athlete's family members, but doesn't include contacts made during an official visit.
What is six?
An academic redshirt must fulfill this requirement over one academic year in order to be eligible to compete and practice away from the institution. A nonqualifier must complete one academic year of this requirement in order to be eligible for practice, competition, and athletically related financial aid.
What is a residence requirement?
An institution can receive this kind of financial aid and allocate it how they see fit, but an individual may not receive this kind of financial aid directly.
What are contributions by a donor?
This rule states that all awards presented by a member institution, conference, or any other approved agency must be the same and equal for all team members receiving the award.
