Sikh people celebrate Diwali as this day

What is Bandi Chod Divas?

Sikhs celebrate Diwali as Bandi Chod Divas, which translates to "Prisoner Release Day." This festival commemorates the liberation of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, the sixth Sikh Guru, from imprisonment in Gwalior Fort by the Mughal emperor Jahangir in 1619. Upon securing his own release, Guru Hargobind negotiated the freedom of 52 Hindu princes who were also imprisoned, having a special cloak made with 52 tassels so that each prince could hold onto it and walk out with him.
