When is it okay to leave your patient unattended?
NEVER. always stay with. Even if your replacement is late, you can not leave them.
What are some things you can do even if your patient doesn't need anything during the rounding?
Refill water, check hat/urinal to empty, empty trash or linen, make sure care board is updated, small talk with patient, etc.

Every time you enter a patient room. Even if you don't do anything for them. Chart "Awake"

What if your 1:1 leaves? do you go home?
NO. Call staffing and/or charge to see if you are needed somewhere else. Never just go home. If you have yet to take a break, commutate that with the charge RN.
