Two main components of the CNS
brain and spinal cord
These organs detect light and send signals to the brain.
What are the eyes?
Input area of the neuron
Dendrites
Part of the brain responsible for eyesight.
Cerebrum (occipital lobe)
Your heart beats faster while you are running in gym class.
autonomic
Organ that stores and processes memories.
Brain
This sense detects vibrations in the air.
What is hearing?
Output area of the neuron
Axon (terminal) (synapse is also acceptable, but technically is not actually part of the cell.)
Part of the brain responsible for regulating heartrate and breathing.
Hindbrain (medulla and pons)
You decide to raise your hand to answer a question in science class.
not
This type of PNS nerve carries information from the body to the brain.
sensory nerves
Taste buds on the tongue send signals to this organ to identify flavors.
What is the brain?
Myelin or Myelin Sheath
Part of the brain responsible for balance
Cerebellum
Your pupils get bigger when you walk into a dark room.
autonomic
This type of PNS nerve carries commands from the brain to muscles.
motor nerves
The eye detects light and sends it down this organ to the brain
What is the Optic nerve?
The two ions that create the electric charge in the axon.
Sodium and Potassium. (Na+ and K+)
Part of the brain responsible for hormone control; links to the endocrine system.
Thalamus and/or Hypothalamus
You choose to kick a soccer ball toward the goal.
not
Reflexes get their input from this organ.
Part of the brain responsible for processing sound.
What is the temporal lobe/cortex?
Protein that allows the electric charge to travel through the axon.
Sodium-potassium pump
Part of the brain responsible for connecting the two hemispheres of the brain together.
Corpus Callosum
Your stomach begins digesting food after you eat lunch.
autonomic
