Neville seems to be what can be best described as a side-character, he seems to (most of the time) only be there for comedy or to help Harry in some way, but with the realization that he is his own character, and that despite being someone who doesn't get much screen time, can be someone so important not just to the story, but to the people in the story. (also he is definitely meant to be the main character)
