Sir Isaac states that no force is required to maintain the motion of a moving object. Explain why you must continue to pedal your bicycle even on a level surface to keep it moving.
An object in motion will remain in motion as long as there is no net force acting on the object. While you pedal your bicycle, there is the net force of friction acting upon the bicycle. To keep the bicycle moving, you must apply a force to balance the force of friction so that the net force on the moving bicycle will be zero while the bicycle is in motion.
