ABCs of NFTY
This group of high school students at your Temple that you came to this event with. Most belong to the same synagogue and have a funny name for their group that ends in "TY." They often get together for social, educational, religious, cultural, recreational, and social action centered events.
What is a TYG?
An awesome person who is in charge of running our amazing, meaningful services, and song sessions. He went to URJ Kutz Camp this summer!
Who is Ari Mabry?
This is the prayer we say before meals. It is the blessing over bread.
What is hamotzi?
This encompasses all of the youth groups that fall in a certain geographic area.
What is a region?
This is the former name of NFTY-MI until the mid-90s.
What is MSTY?
The name for a youth group for anyone in grade 6-8.
What is a JYG?
The name for anyone who participates in NFTY
What is a NFTYite?
This is the prayer we say after meals. It has a short form, and a long form.
What is Birkat Hamazon?
A country in the Middle East where NFTY has a ton of summer travel programs!
What is Israel?
A fun weekend in which NFTYites from all different youth groups in a particular region come together to meet other NFTYites, pray, and learn together--all while having a TON of fun.
What is a kallah?
Shira Schadick is the person that fills this position for our region. Her job is to help write and edit the amazing programs for regional events. She is available to help your TYG do the same!
What is a PVP?
The regional advisor for our region who works with the regional board to plan all events, helps to publicize events, and is available to help your congregation with any teen related issues.
Who is Aaron Klaus?
This word means spirit and boy do NFTYites have a lot of it! Just take a look at our song sessions, our programs, and of course our services!
What is ruach?
This camp, located in Warwick, NY, is where Reform Jewish teens go to learn about leadership and Judaism.
What is URJ Kutz Camp?
The set of rules and guidelines developed by NFTY that you signed when you came to the event that dictate the boundaries that we agree to stay within.
What is the Brit Kehillah?
Gabby Bates serves this role for our region. Her job is to help make sure you feel welcome and are enjoying events. If you have any issues, don't hesitate to track her down. (she's awesome)
What is an MVP?
This is the name for the group of 6 teens who have been elected to serve as the leaders of this region, and plan our regional events.
What is a regional board?
NFTY is divided into this many regions across the US and Canada.
What is 19?
The largest gathering of Reform Jewish teens in the country! Spend 5 incredible days with 1,000 Jewish high school students from all over North America. Attend over 200 interactive workshops on current events and hot topics, hear from well-known speakers, sing and dance during concerts and song sessions, and celebrate Shabbat.
What is NFTY Convention? (It's happening this February in Dallas!!)
These are the three types of 6 Points Camps (Reform Jewish specialty summer camps).
What are Creative Arts, Sports, and Sci-tech?
The most important member in NFTY. Without this person the community would not be the same.

This person serves as our regional president, and she has attended OSRUI for about 383920374 summers. Ask her anything you want to know about NFTY MI!
Who is Sarah Meadows?
This is the parent body of NFTY. It includes all synagogues which define themselves as Reform.
What is the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ)?
This organization is the International Reform Zionist Youth Movement, of which NFTY is the largest member.
What is Netzer Olami?
This is NFTY-MI's mascot.
