What is a grant?
A program that introduces newly admitted students to NGU and its academics, customs, traditions, and opportunities. The most important part of this experience is meeting with your advisor.
What is orientation?
The total number of courses/credit hours the student is enrolled in per year.
What is course load?
A list of all the college courses required to earn a degree within a specific major. These can be located in the academic catalog or the student portal.
What is a curriculum worksheet?
The time set aside by professors and instructors to meet with their students and answer questions.
What are office hours?
The basic form you must fill out to receive financial aid from the federal government to pay for college.
What is the FAFSA?
The process of choosing courses and creating a class schedule for the next semester using your student portal.
What is registration?
This is the status of a student with respect to academic performance.
What is academic status?
The permanent academic record of a student in college that shows majors and minors, courses taken each semester, grades received, academic status, and honors.
What is a transcript?
An outline of a professor's plans for the course that includes assignments, exam dates, and projects.
A federal financial aid grant designed for low-income students that does not have to be paid back as long as the student is and remains eligible for it.
What is a Pell Grant?
Assessments used by the institution to gauge a student's level of proficiency in a subject area to place them at the next level of coursework.
What are placement tests?
The student's decision to remove himself from a class after the add/drop period has passed.
What is withdrawal?
A federal law that protects personally identifiable information in students' education records from unauthorized disclosure.
What is FERPA, or the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act?
A range of quality points that comprise a course grade and delineated as Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor, or Failing. Dependent on professor preference.
What is a grading scale?
An email or statement you will receive after completing the FAFSA that tells you how many scholarships you will receive.
What is an award letter?
Temporary freezes on your student account that keep you from registering for classes or viewing final grades until the issue has been resolved.
What is clearing holds?
120 credit hours of college coursework, divided into core curriculum, major-specific or core classes, and general electives.
What are degree requirements?
The office responsible for maintaining student records, administering academic policies and procedures, and maintaining class schedules and course enrollment information.
What is the office of academic records?
A course that must be successfully completed before another course can be taken.
What is a prerequisite?
When is the deadline to file a FAFSA for the upcoming school year?
When is June 30th?
A full-time faculty member who teaches in your field of study that is assigned to help you make decisions about the courses you need to take to graduate, refer you to help on campus when you need it, answer questions about college, and explain NGU policies.
What is an advisor?
A period during the first week of class each semester when students may make changes to their schedule without a permanent record.
What is drop/add?
A list of importance dates for the school year and includes fall, spring, and summer semester dates.
What is an academic calendar?
An intentional time of Christ-centered worship for the university family that means twice a week.
