The following is the key element of a strong beginning that reveals what the main character is battling with within. Name that element. The sun glistened across the serene lake, the sparkling water reflecting it. Behind me was a line of log cabins, neatly organized. Behind that was a vast expanse of mountain and forest terrain, sloping steeply and whistling as the wind blew through the leaves carrying the smell of pine, maple, and oak to my nose. I sighed. The scene was so very fantastical, so calming. It almost completely smothered my now small fear of forgetting something. But it didn’t. That fear still wandered around in my brain, checking that everything was there. “Toothbrush, check, umbrella, check, towel, check…,” I murmured. “You’re forgetting something,” it hissed. “What?” I nearly screamed out in frustration. The fear became almost silent, but it still lingered in my mind.
