Devin goes to the store and buys baseballs and footballs. He spends a total of 58 dollars.

  • He buys 4 footballs that each cost 7 dollars.
  • The rest of the money is used for the 6 baseballs. Each baseball costs the same amount.

How much does each baseball cost? Show your work or explain your answer.

To find the money spent on the baseballs, I multiplied the number of footballs by $7. I then subtracted that number from $58. The remaining amount is spent on baseballs. Since there are 6 sections, I divide $30 by 6. So the cost of each baseball is $5.

or

4x7=28 dollars.

58-28=30 dollars.

30/6=5 dollars. Each baseball costs 5 dollars.
