What is - Seconal is a barbiturate which is a CNS depressant causing mild sedation. Sonata is a hypnotic that focuses more on relaxation versus the depression of the CNS. The doctor chose the hypnotic because of the alcohol that she could consume in combination with the sleep aid and thus depress her CNS to unsafe levels.
