Protein-controlled diet to maintain nutritional status but avoid buildup of waste products from protein metabolism. I should consume 40-60g of protein every day.
What role does vitamin K provide?
Blood clotting factors. This is required for blood coagulation and can contribute to bone health.
I am important when you're bleeding. You can find me in liver and green leafy vegetables.

What type of patients may require TPN?
Patient's with GI disorders, usually of the small bowel (Crohn's, adhesions, post-op ileus), necrotizing pancreatitis, pediatric patients with congenital anomalies, burn patients, trauma patients, anorexic patients or patients that cannot tolerate enteral feeds temporarily.

Which assessments should I consider prior to administration fo TPN?
Obtain health history, allergies. Head to toe assessment. Assess for need for TPN (inadequate oral intake, GI disease, increased metabolic needs). Draw necessary labs prior (CBC, electrolytes, lipid profile, serum iron levels, total protein/albumin levels)

Vital Signs, signs of infection, solution has been dated and counter-signed, monitor blood glucose levels, monitor for signs of overload, monitor input/output, daily weights and labs, infusion rate is accurate on pump.
