BST is used for...

Teaching new skills!

100

When should you ask staff about their feedback preferences?

At the beginning of each session.

100

How many total benchmarks phases/modules are there?

Seven

100

What are the center's business hours?

7:30 AM to 5:00 PM

100

Number of breaks JP can request.

UNLIMITED!

200

What does "BST" stand for?

Behavioral Skills Training

200

What is a balanced feedback structure?

Positive > Corrective > Positive (Feedback Sandwich)

200

You review benchmarks progress with a training staff...

At the beginning of each session.

200

A staff has a session scheduled for 10:30a and arrives at 10:39a. What would you advise them to do?

Adjust their billing to 10:45a.
200

How do you determine when PB is done with Table Time?

After 22 consecutive minutes OR one full page is completed.

300

BST can be repeated...

as many times as it takes to learn the skill.

300

Name 3 types of feedback.

Examples: in the moment, end of session, written, vocal, sandwiched, straight to the point, etc.

300

A benchmarks staff in the taught phase is having a difficult time multitasking -- they're forgetting the reinforcement after correct responses and aren't providing non-contingent attention or praise while preparing stimuli for programming. At the end of the session, you provide the following feedback: "Good job today! I'd like to see you provide a little more non-contingent attention and play with the client, but that comes with time."

Name 3 problems with this scenario.

Examples: No expectations were set at the beginning of the session, feedback preference was not discussed, no skills were taught by observation staff, observation staff did not utilize BST approach (no models, no instruction, no rehearsal/practice, no repetition), feedback provided at the end of the session should be more behavior specific.

300

Define the 5-20-5 or 5-50-5 Rule.

The first 5 minutes for reviewing programs, daily scheduled, and establishing rapport. The middle 20 or 50 minutes (depending on length of session) designated for programming, data collection, and behavior management. The last 5 minutes for filling out the MyDay Sheet and completing session notes/billing.

How does EAS earn access to additional personal items?

By carrying his words and filling up his token board hanging by the trade window.

400

What are the 5 key components of BST?

Instruction, Model, Practice/Rehearsal, Feedback, Repeat

400

You've provided in-the-moment feedback regarding trial count to the direct staff. They acknowledged the feedback and continued to ask questions. After answering the questions, they did not implement your feedback. What is the next step?

Use BST, provide additional prompts if necessary, repeat.

What is the priority hierarchy for the following scenarios (1 is top priority, 5 is last priority):

returning staff in module 4 benchmarks > independent staff request, out of benchmarks > new staff starting benchmarks > confident, out of benchmarks, not safety care trained > safety care trained in module 7 benchmarks

1. new staff starting benchmark
2. returning staff in module 4 benchmarks
3. safety care trained in module 7 benchmarks
4. independent staff request, out of benchmarks
5. confident, out of benchmarks, not safety care trained

A client is picking at their fingers and engaging in negative vocalizations. They independently request a chewy, but they cannot make the transition to get it themselves. What walkie color code should be used?

If behaviors escalate, RED. If there is no immediate safety concern and/or client continues to functionally communicate and engage with staff, YELLOW

JH expresses he is hungry outside of a mealtime. What can you do?

Refer to his BSP Sensory section and offer a snack.

During a BST session, you're training a new staff member on implementing discrete trial instruction. While practicing, the staff member gives praise after an incorrect response instead of implementing the error correction procedure. You pause the session, explain the mistake, model the correct response, and have them try again. What step of BST are you using when you do this?

Feedback

500

During a session, a staff member out of their benchmarks forgets to prompt functional communication and accept break approximations during a challenging behavior. They followed through with the demand placed and had good body positioning throughout the behavior. You still want to encourage them while giving helpful feedback. What is an example of appropriate feedback you could provide?

Positive Feedback: "Great body positioning while managing the behaviors," "I love how you monitored for safety," "Nice work following through with the initial demand."

Corrective Feedback: "Remember, it's alright to decrease the response effort during challenging behaviors when the client needs a break," "Running functional communication programs are a great way to reinforce desired behaviors," "Next time, let's prompt a break."

500

What's the difference between motor programs and imitation programs?

Imitation means the child copies your movement when you deliver the SD of “do this” or “copy me.” Motor programs involve the child doing a movement, but not copying anyone.
