The king's officials, seeing Daniel's continued prayer as a direct challenge to their authority, plotted to have him thrown into the lions' den. Daniel was thrown into the den of lions, where he was miraculously protected by God. When the king went to check on Daniel the next morning, he found him unharmed, with the lions having done him no harm.
