What is Research?
A series of steps that one follows in attempts to investigate a question or topic.
What is a process?
Proof, facts, and information believed to be true or is true. Data that supports or contradicts the hypothesis of the study.
What is evidence?
Searching inside and outside of the field to help narrow or refine your focus of research.
What is Literature Review?
True or False: Research methods and processes should be taught to students as early as their second year of college.
What is True?
This type of reasoning starts with a general theory and ends with a specific conclusion.
What is Deductive Reasoning?
A summarization of the key findings of research, may use figures or tables to visualize.
What are results?
Before implementing a research study, you must submit a proposal describing your study to this committee.
What is the Institutional Review Board (also known as IRB)?
Key features of this type of research include manipulation, control, and randomization.
What is Quantitative research?
This type of reasoning starts with a specific observation that eventually forms a general theory.
What is Inductive Reasoning?
Mathematical instruments used to examine data.
What is statistics?
What is random?
Participants give their tacit consent to participate if they return a survey.
What is informed consent?
Retrospective studies in which the dependent variable has already occurred.
What are Nonexperimental Designs?
Performed in Laboratory surroundings that are controlled.
What is a Laboratory?
The standard to which comparisons are made in an experiment.
What is a control?
In quantitative research, this determines whether results will remain the same or similar when conducted multiple times.
What is reliability?
Assuring that materials will be kept in a secure place during the study. A participant's anonymity is guaranteed.
What is Confidentiality?
Contains an independent variable that is manipulated in order to look for an effect on a dependent variable; however either use of a control group or randomization is lacking.
What are Quasi-Experimental Designs?
Designed to answer a practical question to help people do their jobs better.
What is Applied?
A particular job or responsibility given to a person or group.
What is an assignment?
A very detailed research plan.
What is a research proposal?
A public statement of the values and principles expected of practitioners in that profession.
What are ethics?
This type of research design is conducted through intense and prolonged contract with a "field" or life situation. Role is the gain a holistic overview.
What is Qualitative Research?
True or False: The research process is square.
What is False?
