What is The mission of Odyssey Charter School is to work in partnership with the family and community, with the aim of helping each child reach full potential in all areas of life.

We seek to educate the whole child with the understanding that each person must achieve a balance of intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social skills as a foundation for life.

Employees shall always exercise professional judgement what are 2 ways to ensure this?

What are Maintain a professional barrier between students and themselves. Refrain from giving out personal e-mail addresses, cell phone numbers, or social media accounts, only their work e-mail address. Keep the classroom door open when talking with students. Never be alone with a single student in a classroom. Refer students to the appropriate resource person for counseling and/or discussions about personal matters. Do not flirt with students. Do not participate in making inappropriate jokes or allow your students to make inappropriate jokes. Do not discuss details of your personal life or intimate personal matters with students. Do not discuss your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, or dates with students. Do not transport students without proper approval.  When transporting students, coordinate transportation ahead of time, and use school transportation if possible. If you have permission to transport a student in your vehicle, ask a co-worker to accompany you. Never leave your students unsupervised for any length of time; have an alternative plan of action. Keep your hands and other parts of your body to yourself. Establish and follow a consistent behavior plan.  Treat each student with respect. Know the student's rights. Do not socialize with students. Do not drink alcoholic beverages in front of your students. Do not take children home with you. Do not make telephone calls or write notes of a personal nature to students. Do not harass students. Respect students’ differences. What you intend as humor, may in fact, be cultural bias or harassment. Use common sense and good judgment. Avoid putting yourself in a position where you would be required to defend, explain, or justify your behavior or actions. Maintain a professional reputation in the community. Even when you are off the job, be discreet.

What time do all teachers need to be at their morning duty posts?

What is because of this year with COVID, and construction, all staff is expected to arrive by 7:15 so you can park (walk if needed), get your temperature taken, sign in, and get to your post by 7:30! All classroom teachers that need to be ready for eLearning will be excused at 7:50 so they can get logged in and ready.

What is the cell phone policy?

What is Cell phone usage by staff is NOT allowed when with students.  This includes checking emails, sending text messages, making phone calls, checking or posting on social media, and playing games.

What type of grading does Odyssey use?

What is Mastery Grading. Grades shall be a measure of a student’s progress and achievement in mastering the subject matter. Grades should be based on the quality of work done and they should reflect a comprehensive evaluation of a student’s progress on multiple assignments/projects/assessments. A student’s regular attendance, daily preparation, and promptness in completion of assignments should be taken into consideration when reporting a student’s grade.

What is the Change In Transportation procedure?

What is all change of transportation notices must be received in writing by the parent or legal guardian of the student. Students may not ride home on a different bus without administration approval. Please let Ms. Young or Mr. Monds know via email if a student is not riding the bus that day.

What do teachers need to do with the red backpacks?

What is the Red emergency bags should travel with the classroom throughout the school (i.e. Café, recess, specials, etc.). In the event of an Emergency Evacuation, teachers must bring their Red Emergency Bag. This bag should contain the following: 1 red folder, 1 green folder, a class roster, emergency procedures sheet, and a map of Site A/B evacuation locations. Teacher must follow the procedures stated below during an emergency evacuation:

  • Take attendance.
  • If all students are present, hold up the green folder.
  • If a student is missing, hold up the red folder.
  • If there is an extra student, hold up the red and green folders simultaneously.
