In a 1v1 situation, what does the attacker need to do to beat the defender?

Attack at speed, at their front foot, beat them on their backside, and cut in behind

(we cut in to draw the foul)

100

What is the purpose of an overlapping run?

To create an overload in the attack and give support to the player on the ball.

100

What is a holding mids primary job?

Disrupt and slow down the attack, win the ball and switch the field.

100

Who joins the attacks by primarily making overlapping runs?

Outside backs

100

What is my favorite D word?

Diagonal (runs/passes)

200

What move do you use when you are in a 1v1 with your back to the defender?

Step over to swim and face up.

200

What is the purpose of a wall pass?

to get around an opponent as quickly as possible with a personnel overload (2v1)

200

Being creative in the attack, finding the forwards with through balls, rewarding the outside backs' overlapping runs.

200

What shape should our midfield be in at all times?

Triangle.

200
In the first 5 minutes of every game, what should your first tackle embody?

You need to "blow s**t up" and set the tone for the rest of the game. Make them nervous to receive the ball with you near.

300

When is the appropriate time to look to counter attack

immediately after winning the ball while the other team is pushed up on the attack

She must quickly counter with numbers and switch the field as quickly as possible.

300

When hitting a cross, where are we ideally aiming? and what foot do they finish with?

2nd six, back foot finish.

2nd six- outside of the Gk's "bedroom"

back foot finish- keeps hips on frame (keeps the ball on frame) and running through to generate additional power (2 steps)

300

Why do forwards make diagonal runs?

To receive the ball behind the seams within the defensive line while remaining onside by timing the penetrating part of their run.

Additionally, it opens space for additional runs by dragging defenders and creating open pockets for us.

300

What are the numbers for the midfield and forwards?

6- holding mid

8- "floater" mid

10- attacking mid

11- left forward

7- right forward

9- center forward

300

the top of the 6 yard box to the pk spot.

400

When would you want to play a 4-4-2?

When they have overloaded their midfield and we need to compete to control the middle of the field.

Our midfield could take 1 of 3 shapes: flat line, box, diamond.

400

Describe a penetrating touch

When your body and ball move together to take space

(we use it to protect the ball, keeping the ball on the opposite side of the defender)

400

Why is it important to have your center forward "check to" in their initial movement?

(Needs at least 2 answers)

1. creates space behind them for the D runs from your outside forwards

2. drags center backs higher

3. gives space for midfielders to combine to join the attack (wall pass/overlap)

4. does not allow defenders to step in front to pick off the initial pass

5. gives center forward an option to "spin out" and still receive the ball behind the now drawn up center backs

400

Where should this player play?

Her name is Gertrude and has moved to Houston, TX from Paris, France. She is extremely fast but only 4'6 and 60lbs. She has an incredible stamina and can run forever. She is patient on and off the ball and can hit a great 2nd 6 cross. Where should Gertrude play?

1. outside back- she could make overlapping runs all game and defend properly without stabbing

2. outside forward- her speed and ability to hit a quality cross make her dangerous in the attack

400

describe BIG 5

5 min of refocusing.

after a goal, long break (injury, card, etc), or the last 5 minutes of a game. The team calls out "Big 5" and you adjust your style of play to fit the scenario.

Up a goal- kill the clock (kick it FAR out of bounds, sub slowly)

Down a goal- keep the ball on the field at all costs (quick restarts)

500

When would you want to play a 4-3-3?

When they have not overloaded the midfield, and we see opportunities to control the wings with numbers (outside forwards and outside backs).

500

What shape should you always be able to create with the positioning of your teammates?

Triangles.

500

What position should she play?

Bethel is a 2014 player moving to Houston, TX from South Dakota. She is 5'8 and 130lbs. She dominates at headers and winning balls out of the air. Her fitness is okay, but isn't her strongest attribute. Her passes are amazing and she has great vision of the field. Where should Bethel play? and why?

1. Holding/Defensive mid- distribution of the ball is one of her strong suites, and she sounds like she could disrupt the play well

2. Center Back- airballs and vision are her strengths, key attributes in a center back

3. Center forward- if she can check to and hold the ball well she will give up the ability to maintain possession and give the outside forwards a chance to make their diagonal runs.

500

Where should this player play?

Rosa is a 5'0" player from Juarez, Mexico. She is quick little player with great ball skill. She is very affective in tight spaces and loves to combine with teams to help get them involved in the attack.

Attack Mid

- Because she is unselfish and creative with the ball. Thrives in 1v1 situations in the attacking third and always looking to get her teammates involved

500

What does "take your steps" mean? and when would you use it?

free kick situations. Attacking players line up with the last defender, the proceed to take 4-5 steps back towards our own goal. As the kicker runs up to strike the free kick the players are running up with her. Now they are breaking the line as the ball is being hit and remaining onside.
