Books of Law
This book is the story of the Israelites "going out" from Egypt. It contains the stories of the ten plagues, the crossing of the Red Sea, and the first giving of the Ten Commandments.

What is Ruth?
This book contains words of wisdom, most of which are attributed to King Solomon.
What is the book of Proverbs?
This prophet's book shows that God is sovereign over the kingdoms of the world, and provides us with examples of how to live faithfully and with courage in a hostile world.

This prophet knew God's mercy would prevail for Nineveh, so he refused to preach there. The book shows God's compassion towards outsiders, and His sovereignty over nature (storms and big fish).

This book gives God's promise of judgment and slavation. It looks forward to salvation through the suffering of a Messiah.

Moses's final sermon to the Israelites to prepare them to enter the promised land. It's name means the second giving of the law.

These book tells of how Israel and Judah fell into idolatry, were divided as a nation, judges, and eventually destroyed and sent into exile.

This book teaches that we should enjoy life and accept frustrations as unavoidable. It concludes with the idea that the duty of man is to fear God and keep His commandments.
What is Ecclesiastes?
This prophetic book contains warnings to Judah, instructions to those in captivity (the exile will last 70 years), and gives future hope to the Israelites.
What is Jeremiah?
This book teaches the loyal love of God by showing that Israel was like an unfaithful wife, but God is a faithful husband.
What is Hosea?
The Hebrew name of this book means "In the Wilderness, and it contains the stories of the Israelites wandering in the wildereness and of God's faithfulness.
What is Numbers?
These books were written after Israel's return from Babylonian captivity. They contain the accounts of the rebuilding of the temple and Jerusalem's walls.
What are Ezra and Nehemiah?
This book is a love poem/song which expresses the virtue of chastisty before marriage and faithfulness in marriage.

This books is a poem that tells the story of a righteous man's suffering. It teaches that even the innocent are tested and suffer, and shows God's sovereignty.

This book contains songs/poems of mourning over the destruction of Israel and the promise that God's mercies are new every morning.
What is Lamentations?
This book expresses God's displeasure with the corrupt worship and sin that had arisen in Israel after the return. Sacrificing maimed lambs, not paying tithes, and divorce were all issues God addressed.
