What is a shelter?
Placement recommended by a licensed clinician that provides 40 hours of psychotherapy and other treatment interventions each week which include: individual therapy and substance use counseling, group therapy and/or substance use therapy, and family therapy.

What is Kearney?
Youth are considered out of home if not residing with this.
What is the legal guardian?
A living arrangement for youth 17-18 years old that maximizes a youth’s independence and engagement within the community. A staff provides assistance with direct skill training on life skills, mentoring, coaching, support and supervision to youth who are living independently, or with a roommate who is also in the program.
What is Independent Living?
A licensed, non-treatment facility providing 24-hour supervision for youth in an age appropriate, individualized and structured group setting. Youth in this level of care require consistent behavior management, supervision and support.
What is a group home?
This placement is recommended by a licensed clinician. Weekly, the youth will be provided with 21 hours of active and rehabilitation treatment to include 3 hours of weekly individual psychotherapy, substance use disorder counseling and/or group psychotherapy and twice monthly family counseling.
What is a Therapeutic Group Home (ThGH)?
Probation cannot issue these while a youth is committed to a YRTC
What are Vouchers?
A licensed or approved facility that provides 24-hour care for youth in a large group setting which may include group homes or residential treatment facilities.
What is Congregate Care?
A placement where a youth receives care from at least one primary care taker who the youth has previously lived with or a trusted adult that has a preexisting, significant relationship with the youth.
What is relative/kinship foster care?
A temporary placement for a juvenile who has violated Nebraska Revised Statute 43-248, and is a documented risk to flee the jurisdiction of the court or is a danger to the community.
What is detention?
Placement may be operated as a freestanding community setting or operated by a hospital.
What is a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF)?

This placement is designed to provide community-based placements in a home-like setting when traditional placements are not an option. This service provides an elevated intensity of intervention beyond what is normally provided in order to meet the needs of a specialized population.
What is professional foster care?
This group home provides care and supervision by trained staff who are awake overnight.
What is a group home A?
Youth placed here will demonstrate persistent behavioral problems (limited coping skills, verbally and/or physically aggressive behavior) that can only be managed with a moderate level of structure; the youth will have functional impairments in daily living skills that cannot be met in a non therapeutic environment.
What is a Therapeutic Group Home (ThGH)?
Youth are not eligible for this while committed to the YRTC.
What is Medicaid?
These youth should rarely be placed out of home, and the placement should address treatment needs or in family settings.
What are status youth or Youth in Need of Supervision and Support (YNISS)?
Probation has a goal to have the majority of out of home youth placed in this level of care.
What is foster care?
Short term placement utilized to achieve stabilization in a therapeutic environment until a youth can transition home or to a placement. The staff team shall include a therapist and direct care staff that are able to provide 24 hour monitoring.
What is crisis stabilization?
This is the most intensive level of psychiatric care and is designed to provide medically necessary, intensive assessment, psychiatric treatment and support to stabilize youth. Typically, the youth poses a significant danger to self or others, or displays severe psychosocial dysfunction.
What is Acute Inpatient Hospitalization?
They determine when a youth completes the YRTC by issuing a 60 day notice.
Who are the YRTCs?
This term means that all available community-based resources to assist the youth and family have been explored and either determined to not be appropriate or have been tried.
