When identifying a camping site - name 3 things to avoid

You find an unconscious person who is not breathing and is unresponsive. What steps do you take to try and save them

 

  • Check for danger to yourself and the casualty.

  • Check responsiveness by gently shaking and shouting. Since they’re unconscious but breathing, do not move them unnecessarily.

  • Send for help

  • Open the airway using the head-tilt, chin-lift maneuver to prevent the tongue from blocking the airway.

  • Place them in the recovery position (on their side with the head tilted back) to keep the airway open and allow fluids to drain.

  • Monitor breathing and pulse continuously until emergency services arrive.

  • Commence CPR

  • Defibrillate if necessary

  • Roll into recovery if able
