What is taught, how it is taught, where the instruction takes place, instructional technology used to support learning.
What are instructional content, procedures, environment and assistive technology?
Services consisting of related personnel that work with students whose hearing loss is so significant that they cannot hear sufficiently to learn in the classroom.
What are interpreting services?
The mandate of IDEA requiring that all children with disabilities, including those who are homeless, wards of the state and who attend private schools be identified and evaluated to determine if they need special education services.
What is Child Find?
A limitation that is inherent in an individual as a result of the impairment.
What is a disability?
Enacted in 1990, this act is essentially a civil rights act for individuals with disabilities.
What is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA, PL 101-336)?
An education program that emphasizes the development of positive behaviors that will serve the same purpose of a negative behavior.
What is a behavior intervention plan?
Related service providers who are frequently involved in assessment activities, especially those with identification of students for eligibility for special educations services.
Who are psychologists?
A statement of the student's specific education program written by a multidisciplinary team that includes the student's goals, any related services necessary and how the student will participate in accountability assessments.
What is the IEP?
Caused when an individual encounters a situation based on external factors.
What is a handicap?
Reauthorized in 1994 and again in 2002 is an emphasis on standards and accountability, requiring annual assessments to demonstrate that students are making adequate yearly progress (AYP)
What is No Child Left Behind (NCLB PL 107-110)?
A mandate requiring that all students with disabilities be educated with children without disabilities to the maximum extent appropriate.
What is the Least Restrictive environment (LRE)?
Related services of early childhood screening and assessment often provided by community agencies. These services include developmental screening and individual assessments.
What is Early Identification and Assessment?
Procedures used to determine if a behavior requiring disciplinary action is caused by or related to the the student's disability.
What is a Manifestation Determination?
A term borrowed from architecture that encompasses the 4 components of special education in IDEA.
What is Universal Design?
Passed on November 19, 2004 and signed into law by George W. Bush, the latest re-authorization of law which includes guidelines for funding and providing special education for students ages 3 - 21 and funding and guidelines for early intervention.
What is IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act PL 108 -446)?
Component of IDEA requiring all teachers to be certified and hold at least a Bachelor's Degree.
What is Highly Qualified?
Services that include teaching students with vision losses how to navigate from one environment to the other. Assist students in traveling independently, using canes, guide dogs, wheelchairs, public transportation
What are Orientation and Mobility Services?
Determination of the function or purpose that a behavior serves
