What are the tracks we have with a brief description of each one.
We have our two teaching tracks; the Integrated and General track.
On the Integrated track you complete your BA and your credential as an undergrad and are able to start teaching.
Versus the General track where you just complete your BA and pick a concentration and then you would need to reapply to complete your credentials.
We also have our Arts & letters track which is a more broad major that has a little bit of everything. On this track you are able to pick a minor and concentration.

What are the requirements for giving out a HUM 597 permit?
For the general track: they should have completed HUM 197, HUM 397 and have at least completed 135 units and have a graduation check on file.
For the integrated track: they should have completed HUM 197 and HUM 397 and be within the last two quarters before entering the credential program.

How can you tell whether the student has a graduation check on file/when do we check for this?
On top of there PAWS they will have a date set next to graduation date. We check to see if they have a graduation check on file as part of the requirements for recieving a HUM 597 permit on the general track.
What quarters can I enter the credential program, how long is it?
For the multiple subject credential there are two options;
- You can enter Fall and be done that following spring, so this would be 3 quarters.
- You can also enter in the Winter quarter and be done the following winter quarter, so this would be 4 quarters.
For the Special Education credential you can enter any quarter and students can contact Shelia Braggs about how long it is.
If a student is looking to take classes at a community college what website would you use and what form would they have to complete?
You would use assit.org and also tell them to fill out the concurrent enrollment
How can a student set up an appointment with Kelly?
They would email Daiana their first and last name, coyote ID #, and a phone number to reach them at. Within the email they would also include their availability for at least a week and their reason for the appointment in a brief detailed description.

What is the minimum cumulative GPA for entering the credential program?
The minimum cumulative GPA is 2.67 or your last 90 units GPA of a 2.75
When would a student file a grad check, and where would they turn it in?
At least two quarters before, and they would file it at office of registrar.
What are the regulations for a student being able to take 19.5 units?
The students can register for 19.5 units without a course overload when they have reached senior status which is 135 quarter units and when they have a grad check on file. They won't be able to register for the class until open enrollment.
Where can you check to see what passing grade a certain class needs?
On the Bulletin, you would search up Liberal Studies and go to their designated track and under each group it has notes as asterisks.
How many units for the concentration classes on the Arts & Letters track? Are they all lower division?
On the concentration for Arts & Letters you need a minimum of 36 units, of these 18 should be upper division. Minor courses can count for the concentration (you can double dip).
Where can you find the checklist for the PAF?
You can look it up on google and type in csusb multiple subject PAF and follow up with the corresponding track or use the binders
What are the instructions to add an open class during the 1st week of classes, 2nd week of classes, and 3rd week of classes?
1st week: Students may add an open class via mycoyote
2nd week: Students will need signature of the class instructor to enroll
3rd week: Students will need signature of the class instructor and department chair (of the class)
*This form will be submitted to the office of registrar
How many days do we tell students to wait for anything to get processed/signed?
3- 5 business days
CBEST & CSET, What are they? Where can you study for them? Which do I take first? What do I need them for? Which CSET do I take? Which is paper and computer test?
CBEST: California Basic Education Skills Test. This test is needed to enter into the credential program, but this exam, along with your BA, allows you to substitute teach.
- There are 3 sections: Reading, Math, and Writing. You have 4 hours to do with it what you please; whether that's taking all 3 sections or only doing one section. Keep in mind whatever you didn't take or pass you would register/pay for again.
- The school provides a free study session for this exam or you could study online with the practice test or buy the study books.
- This exam is available in both paper and computer testing; paper is more cost efficient but results take about 3 weeks. Computer is a pretty penny but results arrive faster. (Keep in mind computer doesn't mean you will take the test from home, it means you will go to a test location and take it on a computer versus paper).
CSET: California Subject Examinations for Teachers. The CSET you would take is CSET Multiple Subjects. This test is also needed to enter into the credential program.
There are 3 subtest;
-Subtest l: Reading, Language, Literature, History and Social Science.
-Subtest ll: Science and Math
-Subtest lll: Physical Education, Human Development, Visual and Performing Arts
You may register to take any one subtest or all three subtest in a a single test session. If you take them all in one session it is 5 hours. Subtest l & ll are 3 hours per subtest and Subtest lll is 2 hours and 15 mins. To study for this exam you can buy the book, register for the review session the school sponsors, or practice online. This exam is only available through computer testing.
It's recommended to take your CBEST first and then your CSET's
What are the requirements for the HUM 595D permit?
Students have to meet with Kelly before signing up for a permit. They should get a permit a quarter before they are expected to enroll into the course to be able to get their hours done on time.
How many types of credentialing are there?
- Single subject
-Multiple subject
-Special Education
What are the steps for obtaining your certificate of clearance?
1. You will need to fill out the request for livescan form with all required fields which have asterisks.
2. Take this form to any livescan location. (UPS stores are pretty common to get them done) Cost is about $70.00.
3. Then student will need to go onto the CTC website and apply for a Certificate of Clearance . This should be completed within a week after you process your livescan. It cost about $50.00.
4. Finally the student should be able to print their certificate.
*Students should do this ASAP because each document has its own wait time.
Whats the procedure we take if a student wants to rent anything in our office?
1. Student needs to leave their COYOTE ID CARD
2. Place a sticky note on the ID card with what they rented including the date
3. Log them onto our advising site with what they rented
Who is the department chair of Liberal Studies?
We don't have a department chair, because we are a program not a department. So our coordinator would be considered our department chair, Kelly Dortch.
