Sprains show swelling or bruising, and usually happen with ankles or wrists.

Do not walk on that trail. Do not go around the closed sign. Choose a different trail that is open.

How can you check the weather before spending time outside?

Yes! Blood pressure medications, allergy medications, decongestants (cold medicine), stimulants, many psychiatric medications (medications that treat mental health symptoms)
If conscious, use a cold pack and monitor for the next 2 hours. Watch out for confusion, bleeding, vomiting or passing out. If unconscious, call 911. Do not move the unconscious person!

What do you do if you get lost while walking on a trail?
Stop walking and take deep breaths to calm yourself. Turn off your phone to conserve battery if you have no signal. Retrace your steps if possible. Yell for help.

What should you do if you think you or someone you're with has symptoms of heat exhaustion?
Go indoors if possible, or to a cooler area (shade). Remove excess clothing layers. Take sips of cool water slowly, place cool compresses on your body. Call 911 if symptoms get worse or you can't get out of the heat.
