Leaves bring in carbon dioxide from the air (it enters through tiny holes on the under side of the leaf). Inside the leaves, the plant uses the energy from the sun to change the carbon dioxide and water into sugar and oxygen.
What is an example of a type of stem?
Vines are one kind of a stem- they can grow and wrap around objects (like trees or posts) to help support the plant. -A cactus is another kind of stem- the cactus can swell to store water. They shrink as they use the water up. Cactus stems also have a waxy covering that helps keep them from losing water.
