Holds the needle in place. If the needle breaks, loosen (use screwdriver in the accessory box) and remove needle, throw in trash. Take new needle with flat side towards the back and push the needle up into the socket as far as it will go. Tighten the screw so the needle is firmly held in place.

Lengthens or shortens the stitch. Normal stitch = 2.5,or on dial between numbers 2 and 3. Normal stitch is between 10-12 stitches per inch. Gathering or basting is 4 stitches per inch.

Small metal arm with a hole for thread to go through. Used as a thread guide, moves up and down as the machine operates as it takes the needle up and down from the bobbin to lock each stitch. MUST be at its highest point when starting and stopping the machine. Many machines do this automatically.

Holds fabric firmly in place for stitching. Raised and lowered by a presser bar lifter at the back of a needle bar. Release lever SLOWLY do not allow it to slam down.

Flat piece under presser foot. Needle points down through slots and feed dog projects upwards through slot. Has numbers 10 and 15 on it to guide edges of fabric. Number 15 is for 5/8 inch garment seam allowances. Number 10 is for 1/2 inch seam allowance.
