Who do you call first in a code situation?

Republic or City depending on who can come faster. We need extra hands!

What 3 things are you responsible for in a code situation?

Calling EMS.

Recording all meds and actions (ie CPR) are given and what time they were given. 

Participating as a round in compressions, and breaths.

What is the ratio of compressions to breaths in CPR?

30:2. To make sure this ratio is followed counting your compressions out loud is helpful and encouraged.

Who do you call after EMS is called?

Julie. She can be an extra set of hands and an additional nurse to administer life saving treatments.

If pt is unable to sign MOT what should you do?

If an ADULT family member is present they are able to sign for the patient. If no one is present put "Pt is unable to sign."

Where are the body board (litter) and back board located? What are these used for?

The back board is hanging on the crash cart and is used to provide a hard flat surface to perform chest compressions.

The body board is used as an aid to transport someone who is unconscious  from outside into a bed and is located against the wall in room 1.

How deep should chest compressions be?

At least 1/3 of the chest depth.

The Doctor tells you to call 911. What should you say/ do? 

"I can and will call republic, however because 911 is considered a lower level of care we are unable to call them."

Do we keep the original or the copy of MOT?

The copy. The original ALWAYS goes with the pt.

A pt hands you a Medicare advantage card and states that they are experiencing chest pain and SOB. What is the first thing you should do?

Go get the nurse. Ultimately our first priority is the patient and their life. Conversations regarding insurance and self pay rates can be had AFTER the pt is stabilized and a life threatening emergency has been ruled out.

When there is a weapon in the building or staff and other patients are in danger.

What 4 things do we need to make sure the administrator gives us when taking MOT on the phone? 

1) Hospital name and room number if not going to the ER 

2) The physicians Name and accepting time

What is the last thing we need to make sure of with all paperwork before the pt leaves the building?

COPIES!!! (At least 2, one for Julie, one for the hospital)
