Coming from a military family, when I was a young girl I lived in the Philippines for a while. We did not live on a military base, but in a rural community. As such, we did not have typical amenities. We had a clothes ringer washer, used a clothesline for drying, no hot water heater, no glass windows ( just screens with blinds), no A/C, and had to buy drinking water at the gas station . We also had a "house boy " who waxed our painted cement floors with a coconut.
