A photo of his dad with a dog. He didn't realize his dad had a dog, but they seemed very close in the photo. It was surprising based on how his dad treated Pax.
What excuse does Peter give when the hardware store clerk asks him why he isn't in school? (CH 4)
Tells him it is his lunch break and he needs to get back.
What does Peter find on the route off the highway? What happens to Peter after his short rest? (CH 6)
He finds a dirt road and follows it. Then he comes to a pasture with a low stone wall and a freshly painted barn. Once he starts walking again, he trips on a root and breaks his ankle.

She will bind his foot, give him something to help with the pain, and make him some sort of cane or crutch. Peter will then go to a garage near the highway and call his grandfather.
He thinks she is crazy or a murderer. He then realizes that she is actually kind.

War sickness. How humans lose their reason and begin to kill each other. He compares this to the disease foxes get (rabies) that cause them to turn on others.
