Curtain Call
Used to accomplish as many seals as possible in a controlled setting, this curtain wall type involves large factory glazed segments shipped to site for assembly on the facade.
Unitized
This piece of glass spans above a door or entrance.
Transom
Based on contract drawings, this set of documents is used for panel layouts and illustrate how specific construction components will be manufactured, fabricated, assembled, and installed.
Shop Drawings
Twice as strong as heat-strengthened, this type of glass is made by heating the annealed glass uniformly before cooling both sides rapidly, and breaks into cube shaped particles to reduce likelihood of injury.
Tempered Glass
Known for his many cruise trips, adorable Frenchie, and New Yorker temper, this CUA alumnus has been a member of PCC’s project management team for 6 years.
Chris Caruso
Allowing water to escape the system, these slots or holes are punctured into the curtain wall components and/or sealants at strategic locations determined by the manufacturer.
Weep Holes
Energy efficient and perfectly suited for high traffic, this entrance type consists of three or four doors that hang on a central shaft to rotate around a vertical axis within a cylindrical enclosure.
Revolving Doors
These may have driven you crazy during a takeoff, but these small components, specifically engineered, are responsible for attaching all parts of a system together.
Fasteners
Typically used for non-visible components, this is what we call a finish (or lack thereof) that leaves the raw metal look intact.
Mill Finish
One of the largest contracts in the PCC’s history, this terracotta rainscreen and metal panel project was a multi-team effort that resulted in winning WBC’s 2024 Specialty Contractor Award.
Bridge District / Douglass
Installed after temporary retainer clips, this aluminum member is used to permanently hold the glass in place within the curtain wall framing.
Pressure Bar/Plate
As one of the most important components of a storefront system, this horizontal framing member forms the base of the wall and assists with redirecting water to the outside of the building.
Sill (Pan)
Often found behind a cladding system, this material is used for its thermal properties and can be held onto the building with stick pins.
Insulation
Unlike extrusions, this type of aluminum shape is formed from flat sheets using a specific machine to create closures, trim, or miscellaneous shapes.
Brake Metal
After working at their parent’s glazing company for over 10 years, this team member brought their expertise to PCC 5 years ago to help us chase bigger and better projects as Preconstruction Manager.
Eva Lichtenberg
This curtain wall component is used to connect the horizontal framing members to the vertical mullions.
Shear Block
Commonly used on building interiors, this type of entrance is typically frameless, with only top and bottom rails or patch fittings.
All-Glass Entrance
Not always necessary for a "dry joint" system, this product may be required at the perimeter of a system or at panel-to-panel joints, and is often silicone based for PCC's purposes.
Sealant/Caulking
Suitable for safety applications, this glass type involves two or more lites permanently bonded together with one or more interlayers.
Laminated
Though some old guy said “a house divided cannot stand”, PCC’s project management team has stood strong while broken into these two teams, typically focusing on glazing versus panels
Team Brian and Team Sheldon
Typically used in a hybrid curtain wall system, this glazing method requires a metal channel adhered to the glass (cassette) that the namesake component engages into.
Toggle Glazed
Also called an astragal, this component of an entrance is used to seal the clearance gap between a pair of doors.
Meeting Stile
Often required in the contract and specifications, this is scale or full-size model of a design, and will typically involve the cladding system, attachment methods, and interaction with other systems.
Mockup
Comparable to sapphire, this durable-yet-decorative finish type involves a two-step electrolytic process to create a corrosion-resistant surface, and is distinguished by Class I or Class II coating types.
Anodized
This service offered by PCC occurs when specialty contractors provide input during the design phase of the project to improve constructability, cost-effectiveness, and functionality.
