The top two chambers of the heart
What are the atria?
This may be seen with excessive movement. Waves may appear bumpy, wavy, or tremulous.
What is artifact?
This is called the pacemaker of the heart
What is the SA node?
What is 0.12 to 0.20 seconds?
The rhythm seen in this strip
What is normal sinus rhythm?
Occurs at the beginning of every shift, between PCTs
What is telemetry report?
Another name for cardiac muscle
What is the myocardium?
The time value of the smaller squares within the larger squres on the telemetry strip
What is 0.04 seconds?
The node responsible for delaying impulses by 0.04 seconds to keep ventricles from contracting too quickly
What is the AV node?
Normal duration is 0.06 to 0.12 seconds, or half the PR interval
What is the QRS complex?
Referring to the rhythm strip below, this rhythm is regular, at a rate of less than 60 bpm
What is sinus bradycardia?
As long as there are no changes, this is how often the PCT documents the patient's telemetry rhythm
What is every 8 hours?
The large vessel that carries unoxygenated blood to the lungs
What is the pulmonary artery?
Commonly used for routine monitoring. It is especially useful for detecting sinus node and atrial arrhythmias.
What is Lead II?
The rate the Purkinje Fibers impulses discharge
What is 20 to 40 times?
What is the PR interval?
Referring to the rhythm strip below, the rhythm is regular, fast, and the pr interval may be shorter or difficult to see
What is supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)?
The staff member who must be contacted when there are no telemetry units available
Who is the Nursing Supervisor?
The large vessel that carries blood to the rest of the body
What is the aorta?
This is done by counting the number of complete cycles per minute
What is calculating the heart rate?
This is located between the bundle branches and the AV node
What is the Bundle of His?
The segment that represents depolarization and repolarization of the ventricles
What is the QT interval?
Referring to the strip below, this rhythm indicates the atria are quivering
What is atrial fibrillation (A fib)?
From the policy:
Remove the batteries.
Take to the soiled utility room and clean the pack and wire using a hospital approved disinfectant
Check leads and replace wires as needed
What needs to be done to store telemetry units?
These include the tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral, and aortic
What are the 4 valves in the heart?
It takes this many of the squares pictured below to create a six second strip
What is 30?
The correct pathway of electrical conduction through the heart
What is SA node, AV node, Bundle of His, Bundle Branches, and Purkinje Fibers?
Elevation of this segment may indicate an MI
What is the ST segment?
Referring to the rhythm strip below, it is an emergency
What is Ventricular Tachycardia (V tach)?
-A problem with electrodes, batteries, or 60 second cycling pattern.
-Change in rhythm
-Increased ectopy
What are reasons to notify the nurse?
