Narrative Elements
The overarching idea that the writer of the story wants the reader to understand.
Think about the paper you just wrote and think about what you have learned.
What is reflection?
A time and place the story is set in
What is the setting?
This element refers to the way the writer uses language including diction, voice, tone, sentence style, etc.
What is style?
Nothing is written yet. Ideas are written out and there are lots of possibilities.
What is brainstorming?
The issue or problem characters in a story are confronted by
What is conflict?
The structure of the narrative as it moves through time.
What is plot?
The paper should basically be done except for correcting some grammar here and there, correcting format, and making sure it is ready to be turned in
What is editing?
A historical account or biography written from personal knowledge or special sources
What is a memoir?
Refers to the perspective the story is told from
What is point of view?
The first time we are taking all our ideas and thoughts and writing them in one collective paper.
What is a draft?
Being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else
What is unique?
The people involved in the narrative
What are characters?
Analyze sentence structure and word choice. We are going to do everything possible in this stage to make this draft as close to a final draft as possible.
What is revision?
A spoken or written account of connected events; a story
